Ford introduced its first Escape in 2001. Since then a million of them was sold and the company is not going to stop on this. Though there are many other SUVs that might compete with the Escape, Ford seems to succeed in finding what would satisfy the bigger number of buyers.
Escape is the combination of the practicality of a midsize car, style and the four-wheel drive capability of an SUV and a low price.
In 2008 Ford Escape renewed the interior and exterior. Inside of the SUV is open and airy, it gives a feeling like you are sitting in a big living room. Its seats are firm and high. They are shaped perfectly for an adult driver. Though when it was first introduced, the rear seat of the Escape was the most comfortable among SUVs. But since then Saturn, Toyota and Honda overcame it in this, and Ford did not improve their seats further.
The Escape is made more for the on-road driving than the off-road because of its independent suspension and light-duty four-wheel-drive system. Though even off-road it proved itself better than expected. First of all it is because of the good departure angle and secondly because its wheelbase is smaller, as Honda’s.
The new Ford Escape is equipped with long-distance cruiser that helps a lot when you spend most of your day driving, especially on Interstates and highways.
In general the SUV is attractive and comfortable, but it could succeed even more if its makers added stronger brakes and the fifth gear.
Though there are several auto shows which take place in summer, we already start finding out about the fall events.
Ford’s presentation at 2008 London Auto Show is Fiesta ECOnetic.
Ford plans to stop the production of the Mercury models in 4 years. Though the officials of the company do not confirm this information, Ford does not have any plans for it after 2012.
This year at the Detroit Auto Show Ford presented Fiesta. The company planned to build only a sedan version for the North American customers, but the high demand from customers made them consider the production of a hatchback model as well.
Ford does not like making minivans and offers the alternatives instead. The combination of Range Rover and station wagon is going to the dealerships in July.
