Many German vehicles are returning to diesel since the time of bio-diesel invention. In addition to this many car manufacturers are inventing their own filters for diesel engines in order to reduce air pollution.

Mercedes-Benz presents its 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with turbocharged diesel engine. It has five-speed automatic transmission with manual override system. Almost in every case automatic type works perfectly well as if predicting the driver’s actions, but manual override will be good for towing and off-road.

One good advantage the diesel gives to any vehicle that rides on it is the good torque. 2008 Jeep Cherokee does not have much horsepower, only 215, which is really tiny for a 4,723-pound auto like this, but the torque here is 376 pound-feet. This is so because diesels are unthrottled engines and acceleration fires more fuel to the chambers.

You will also like the idea of visiting gas-stations not so often, because Jeep Cherokee takes only 15 mpg in city limit and 20 mpg on a highway. This is really good comparing, for example, to a Chrysler Jeep which takes 14 mpg in city/19 mpg on highway.

The only drawback of the auto being diesel is the price on the fuel nowadays. It is cheaper to buy the finest gasoline than to get diesel. This fact will influence a lot on Mercedes-Benz Jeep Cherokee sales, especially in North America.
