2009 Detroit Auto Show: Mercedes-Benz BlueZero

Mercedes BlueZero

Mercedes-Benz is planning to go to 2009 Detroit Auto Show with a trio of BlueZero concept autos, but a few pictures have already leaked to the Internet revealing the “green” vehicles in the golden colors.

The hatchbacks of the BlueZero family are planned to be produced only in 2012 and will represent the next-generation of Mercedes B-Class vehicles which are going all electric as the German website autobild.de says.

The first BlueZero is E-Cell which is fully electric. It has a 100-kW engine with 236 pound-feet of torque. The lithium-ion batteries last for 60 miles and they need only two hours for a recharge.

If a person needs a vehicle for longer drives, he/she would be interested in E-Cell Plus. It is a gas-electric hybrid with turbocharged three-cylinder motor from Smart which works as a generator. This hatchback can run for nearly 375 miles.

And while the electric autos are getting common for the automakers, the third member of the BlueZero family brings a different technology which is not as popular. F-Cell uses hydrogen fuel cell while running on electric motor. It provides 136 horsepower, 236 pound-feet of torque and zero emission.
