2009 Geneva Auto Show: Mitsubishi i MiEV Sport Air

Mitsubishi i MiEV Sport Air

Mitsubishi plans to start sales of i MiEV in Japan this summer and then expand to Europe in 2010. Meanwhile the company works on the new concept, Mitsubishi i MiEV Sport Air that is presented at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show.

The small car seats four passengers and runs on an electric motor powered by second-generation lithium-ion batteries. The all-wheel drive EV has 80 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque.

I MiEV Sport Air attracts attention with its teardrop-shaped body and detachable clear roof. According to psychologists’ opinion blue is the best color for a “green” vehicle”, so Mitsubishi decided to give sky-blue body to the small car, trim the interior in the same tones and make blue lighted gauges.

The manufacturer says the significant difference in the i MiEV going on sale this summer and Sport Air at the Geneva Auto Show is that “the tracks have been widened and the overhangs have been extended to provide higher level of pedestrian protection expected in Europe”.
