Nissan is going to make a revolution at the SUV market by creating a unique four-door convertible auto. This is going to be a new model of the well known Nissan Murano. We already know about a drop top Jeep Wrangler Limited, but its four-wheel-drive capability is made for a different range of customers.
The Nissan project is aimed for the closest future and the sale of the convertible SUV should start in spring 2010. Murano will look very much like the Jeep, even the top is going to be soft, despite the big popularity of hard tops right now.
The vehicle is aimed for those who have to pick up grandkids from time to time and want to have some cargo space. At the same time the SUV doesn’t look like a traditional grandpa’s truck or grandma’s long Cadillac, on the contrary it is fun and very attractive.
Under the hood 2011 Nissan Murano is going to be typical for this kind of auto: 3.5-liter V6 engine which provides 265-horsepower. It is not going to help you save much on gas, since it uses about 21 mpg in general in city limit and on highway. The variation of transmissions will be the same as for 2009 Muranos and the manufacturers will probably offer a choice of front- or all-wheel drive.
The price of the SUV is not going to be low. We don’t know the exact amount, but if a 2009 Murano all-wheel drive with navigation system costs above $39,000, the convertible model will be even higher.
Nissan plans to introduce Nismo 370Z at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show, but the image of the car won’t be a surprise for those who watch auto news online.
Nissan presented a new vehicle for Europe. It is a relative to Nissan Frontier, which is already being sold in North America; the European Navara is the double-cab pickup truck.
Indian car manufacturer, Bajaj Auto, is going have broader choice of vehicles by making an alliance with Renault-Nissan.
Nissan plans to build full-sized Titan trucks for North America and has already agreed with Chrysler about the beginning of the production at their plant in Saltillo, Mexico.
