Mustang reached a significant point last week. Ford announced the 9 millionth Mustang has rolled off the line and heading to an unknown owner to a dealership in Iowa. In April, 2009, Mustang will celebrate its 45th anniversary.
Its official beginning was marked on April, 17, 1964. A night before Ford bought some time on all three TV networks. Then they announced about a new sport vehicle to approximately 27 million people all over the U.S. Hoping they will sell about 100,000 autos in a year, the auto makers did not expect, they would get 22,000 orders just that first day! In the first year Ford sold 417,000 Mustangs!
Americans were fond of the car. It was considered to be a good affordable youth auto. Nowadays Mustang is number one sport car in America and according to the statistics every second sport car sold in U.S. is Mustang.
It is interesting the history says in the beginning the name Torino was offered for the auto, but Henry Ford II did not want anything Italian and offered “Thunderbird II”. Later Thompson agency offered “Mustang” which would remind about a famous World War II fight plane and everybody approved the name.
Though there are several auto shows which take place in summer, we already start finding out about the fall events.
Ford Motor Company presented a new package on the New York Auto Show this year. They have a program supporting breast cancer education and the new Warrior in Pink package is going to help with this.
The world’s largest aircraft event, Oshkosh show in Wisconsin collected a lot of enthusiasts this summer. Over half of a million people came to look at more than 10,000 aircraft pieces.
Ford’s presentation at 2008 London Auto Show is Fiesta ECOnetic.
Ford plans to stop the production of the Mercury models in 4 years. Though the officials of the company do not confirm this information, Ford does not have any plans for it after 2012.
