Charities Suffer from Cash for Clunkers

Donate a Car

Charitable organizations are very upset with the situation made by Cash for Clunkers. People are more eager to get $4,500 for their old trucks than to donate them or give to the needy. The situation is really tuff for charities, because they see many vehicles which would ordinarily go to them, being delivered to dealerships and taken apart while the charities could give the autos to low-income owners or sell for cash.

One charitable organization in Texas has reported that Cash for Clunkers has already cost them approximately $75,000 in used-vehicle donations. Goodwill Charities International Inc. also says that the government program makes a great negative impact on their work. National Kidney Foundation expects to lose 30,000 vehicles in donations which make 10-15% of their profit due to the high popularity of Cash for Clunkers.

Government plans about the charitable organizations are not known yet. The end result of donations will also be known only after the program is finished. The Associated Press believes that there is still hope for charities, because many clunkers’ owners end up not qualifying for Cash for Clunkers and dealers advise them to donate the vehicles.
