The history of cars has known several designs which proposed six wheels for a sport auto. Ferrari, March and Williams had projects like this, but they did not prove having any advantage over the four-wheel autos and the manufacturers gave them up.
Italian automaker, Covini, designed the six-wheel car which is going to production. The first sample was introduced at an auto show in 2004, but at that time not many believed it was a serious project which could have any future. However, the first Covini C6W models will be produced next year. It will be a limited production with only 6 units a year.
C6W has a 4.2-liter V8 engine from Audi which provides 440 horsepower. Unlike trucks this car has four wheels at the front. The size of the wheels is different like in a usual rally car: 16-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels.
Covini designers say the additional front wheels help the car to be steadier on the road. This helps to make the turns smoother and the driver can have higher speed on them. The six-wheel auto is also supposed to be stopped quicker and easier.
The price of the Covini C6W has not been announced yet.
The French auto maker prepared a really sweet candy for this auto show in Paris. New updated Megane Trophy received additional 30 horses (360 total) comparing to the previous version.
The iconic American sports car, Dodge Viper, inspired certain people who are ready to investigate the market for the possibility of the purchase of the model.
