Eco Tires Are Safe for Environment but not for People?

Continental tires

Continental Tire’s officials warn against so called “eco tires”. These are tires with certain features like low rolling resistance and minimal noise pollution. But according to Continental Tire's head of development, Burkhard Wies, such tires created directly for "extremely low rolling resistance and high mileage are 10-percent worse at wet braking than those with good all-round properties." For example, the eco tires increase breaking distance by 25 feet.

The tire makers insist that the advantage of such tires is that they help drivers to contribute to environmental protection. They also help save money with incentives offered for fitting a car with such tires. However it is all achieved at the cost of personal safety.

The eco tires now are not properly developed so it’s not the time to prefer them to usual types. This project still needs much investigation and work.

We can only what Continental will offer to the drivers, as its rival Michelin’s eco tires now come as standard on the Peugeot 308.
