Fiat Starts Working in the U.S.

Fiat 500 Abarth

Fiat is planning to bring its best-seller to the U.S. market and instead of importing the small car from Europe, the Italian automaker wants to build it on the Chrysler U.S. plants. According to the company’s executive, the most possible variant is the facility in Belvidere, Illinois.

American customers will meet Fiat 500 earlier than it was expected a year ago, before Fiat and Chrysler made a decision to merge. The Italian car is going to the buyers in the first quarter of 2011.

The manufacturer will offer a choice of four Fiat 500s: two hatchbacks, a convertible and a sedan. One of the hatchbacks will be a well-known and highly advertised Abarth 500. Since American customers are in love with big vehicles, Italian automaker is going to offer them a four-wheel drive version of Fiat too.

The partnership with Chrysler is already showing the benefits for Fiat. The Italian manufacturer expands the market, keeps the vehicle price low by producing the cars on the native plants and can even use a well-established network of Chrysler dealerships instead of trying to build their own for the sales of the little cars.
