Fiat and Chrysler have finally announced about the alliance a week ago and industry experts are giving them three years till Fiat products come to the U.S. market. However, Tom W. LaSorda, Chrysler's vice chairman and president has different opinion.
"We've done a lot of pre-work in terms of homologations and emissions. Eighteen months is practical. Three years is fundamentally wrong. We can do it faster," he said. Although many Chrysler leaders give press conferences, none of them tells which Fiat models will come to the North American market and whether all of them will be imported from Fiat plants in other countries or assembled in the U.S. by Chrysler. According to the agreement, Fiat will design at least one auto that will be built on a Chrysler facility. This is the promise Italian automaker had to give to United Auto Workers organization.
Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne, says they are excited about the partnership and plan to start the work in America with the most popular models such as Alfa Romeo and Cinquecento.
Selling a big auto manufacturing company is not easy and quick. It has been almost a year since the American automakers announced that they would like to give up certain brands. Some deals are already over, but the others have not found good buyers so far.
