Fisker plans to start sales of a new hybrid in the end of 2009. Right now the car is going through the first testing period in California. It is only the beginning and many other tests are waiting for Karma in the future such as crash test and the battery software system tuning.
The first time the car was shown at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show and since then Fisker has already received 500 orders for the model, though Karma will cost about $80,000. By the beginning of 2010 the manufacturer plans to make 1,250 cars a month.
The reason of the popularity of the car is the unique design. Being a plug-in hybrid, Karma can run 50 miles on electric power after an overnight charge. The solar panels on the roof generate the energy during the day and charge the batteries of the car at night. There is also a climate control system, which partly regulates itself and provides cooling to the interior of the vehicle, when Karma is parked.
The outside design is a flow of designers’ imagination who decided to make a long low hood and short rear overhand. The center is made wider to provide much comfort for the driver and passengers. The aluminum batteries are installed between the axles. This provides maximum weight balance.
