The most powerful Mustang, Dearborn, will arrive to the dealerships in the end of May. The company is making only 1000 cars this year and will have additional 700 in 2009. Since the number of the Mustangs is limited they will go to selected dealerships only. The price tag of this 540-horsepower car is $79,995 including destination and tax.
The official name of the Mustang is 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR. It has supercharged 5.4-liter V8 engine, 510 pound-feet of torque and six-speed manual transmission. In addition Dearborn is equipped with revised engine calibration and freer-flowing exhaust. When they are asked about the fuel-efficiency of the new muscle car, the designers don't give the exact answer and only reply, testing is in progress.
Ford spokesman points out there are also several optional features like navigation system, satellite radio and a Shaker 1000 Stereo.
Ford plans to stop the production of the Mercury models in 4 years. Though the officials of the company do not confirm this information, Ford does not have any plans for it after 2012.
This year at the Detroit Auto Show Ford presented Fiesta. The company planned to build only a sedan version for the North American customers, but the high demand from customers made them consider the production of a hatchback model as well.
Ford does not like making minivans and offers the alternatives instead. The combination of Range Rover and station wagon is going to the dealerships in July.
Mustang reached a significant point last week. Ford announced the 9 millionth Mustang has rolled off the line and heading to an unknown owner to a dealership in Iowa.
It has been noticed several times already, Ford of Australia designs future cars for Ford in North America. Right now they are working on the design of the rear-wheel drive autos which will be presented in 2012 in U.S.
