Ford Is Ready to Be Green

Ford Electric Car

Many manufacturers planned to make “green” presentations at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. Ford joined the group telling about its future projects.

According to the automaker’s representative, the company plans to start the production of an electric van in 2010, battery-operated small car in 2011 and plug-in hybrid and third generation conventional hybrid in 2012.

The small car is going to look like Focus. The manufacturer is using the existing platform to cut the designing time and come up with the ready model by 2011. The small car will use no gasoline and will run on lithium-ion batteries which last for 100 miles. Ford plans to develop it together with Magna International. Since the electric vehicles get so popular the automaker expects to produce and sell 5,000-10,000 models of this car annually.

"Ford is heading in the direction America and our customers want us to go, which is a green, high-tech and global future," said Ford executive chairman Bill Ford who’ve been dreaming about green cars and trucks since he took this position 10 years ago.
