Formula 1 Is Moving from Shanghai

Crand Prix Circuit

Since 2004 Formula 1 Grand Prix Races have been held in Shanghai International Circuit, China, but lately the officials have been unhappy with the poor ticket sales and they are speaking about moving to other place.

Different newspapers quote the deputy director and the executive of Shanghai Administration of Sports where they say the race administration is working on pros and cons of Formula 1 taking place in the relatively new circuit in China. The final decision has to be made in 2009 which will determine the destiny of the race for 2010.

Chinese government spent $240 million on the racetrack for Formula 1, but the tickets from the event don’t break even with what was spent. The place has been rented for other races public and private, but this is not what the racetrack was built for. If it goes on like this the F1 administration has to look for something different while the circuit will be turned into “Disneyland for cars”.
