It is interesting to know, not all the fuel-efficient cars will help you save on insurance. The biggest gas savers - Toyota Prius, Honda Accord and Toyota Corolla – are also on government’s top 10 list among the most expensive cars to insure.
Insurance rates depend on many factors like driving record, type of the vehicle, average mileage, etc. It also depends on the state where you live and its rates.
According to the research made by Insure.com in November, 2007, among the top selling vehicles in America, Pruis was the third most expensive car to insure with an average premium of $1,210 a year. Honda Accord was the forth ($1,203 a year) and Toyota Corolla the sixth ($1,185 a year) in the list. The leader of the most expensive cars was Dodge Ram pickup truck.
There are several reasons for the above mentioned fuel-efficient cars to be expensive.
First of all they are relatively new and the replacement parts are harder to find and buy. The parts are also of higher price because of being too rare.
Secondly, these cars are smaller and lighter and this makes both the vehicle and the passengers suffer more in case of an accident.
Thirdly, the smaller cars attract more thieves. Honda Accord and Civic were the top two most often stolen autos in 2007. Mostly they were taken for the profitable parts.
Michael Franck of Miami-Dade County, Florida, won a national prize of this year’s Safety Belt Poster and Video contest. He received a cash award in the computer-generated category.
Many people use their cell phones while driving although the law forbids this because talking and texting might distract a driver severely. According to the official statistics 78% crashes happen because of driver’s inattention and mobile phones are among the top causes of distraction.
