General Motors still exists thanks to the help of the governments of different countries where the manufacturer does its work: the American government has just approved the multi-billion bailout, the Chinese officials helped with the financing of the building of a $390 billion assembly plant for Chevrolet Cruze and now the Australian government supports the development and production of an all-new small car.
The auto is going to have Delta small-car platform, all-wheel drive and a four-cylinder engine. The designers plan to use new technologies to make a fuel efficient car and reduce its emissions. The auto is going to come out as a sedan and a hatchback model which will share the small-car architecture of Chevrolet Cruze and Saturn Astra.
It hasn’t been decided yet what fuel will be used, but the new car is going to be a hybrid for which the designers consider the options of diesel, E85, LPG and compressed natural gas.
The American automaker, General Motors, does not plan buying lithium-ion batteries for electric cars from other manufacturers, the company has announced that there will be a plant built by them specifically for this purpose.
