Cash for Clunkers has great popularity and its funds are thinning out very quickly. President Obama was delighted to hear this news and signed a document which allows extending the program with additional $2 billion in funding.
General Motors has found a good way to attract the customers with old vehicles to trade them in with GM fuel-efficient autos: the manufacturer offers zero-percent financing for up to 72 months if the purchased vehicle goes under the Cash for Clunkers program. The offer has a short term: it runs till August 31 only.
GM spokesman, John McDonald said that only one 2010 vehicle qualifies for zero-percent financing: this is Pontiac Vibe. He also specified that neither Chevrolet Corvette nor 2010 Chevrolet Camaro will be sold with zero-percent interest rate. However, many 2008 and 2009 models are welcome in the program, for example, 2009 Chevrolet Aveo and 2009 Chevrolet Silverado. In fact, with the rebate and no interest the brand new Aveo can be purchased for only $7,000 with $110 monthly payments. Not bad at all!!!
It seems that Cash for Clunkers really pulled automakers out of economic troubles and low sales. The manufacturers do not worry any more about sales and are counting the great profits after the program. Ford is so excited about big auto sales that it decided to increase the production by adding shifts to the truck plants in Missouri and Michigan.
Today is the last day for the government program Cash for Clunkers. Although they expected it to last till November, it took only one month to use $3 billion in funding. The U.S. Department of Transportation is going to end the program at 7 p.m. Central time today, August 24.
Cash for Clunkers is up and running, but many believe that it will not last as long as it was supposed to. The arrangers of the program had two limits: either run it till November 1, or till the time the Department of Transportation will run out of money set apart for CARS: $1 billion.
BMW has officially announced that it is going to make new series of small, front and four-wheel drive vehicles on a new platform. These autos are going to share it with the next generation of Mini models. At this time the company is “exploring the possibility of developing a joint venture for the front- and four-wheel-drive systems of these cars”.
