GM Is Ready to Get Rid of Hummer

Hummer

Due to the low demand on SUVs and trucks in North America, General Motors is interested in selling Hummer brand to China if any of the Chinese car makers will want to deal with it. The markets are growing in Russia and Latin America and Hummer can gain more profit if it will be built in China.

For the last three years GM has not seen anything but loses from Hummer, the total amount of which is $50 billion. It won’t become profitable this year and several more years in a row, due to the rising prices on fuel. Americans, having to pay $4 a gallon, prefer to get small fuel efficient sedans.

GM president and chief operating officer, Fritz Henderson, says they are open to any ideas and offers from the manufacturers in other countries. “If any Chinese companies are interested in buying Hummer, it will be certainly an option for us to look at”, he notes.
