London is expecting to start the 2008 Auto show next week and one of the debuts from there is Lotus Eco Elise. Its demonstration was yesterday and all the people interested in the car market news could see how serious this company is about making their vehicles “green”.
Eco Elise was designed to show people all the newest technologies in the creation of a car with the care about environment. The manufacturers used sustainable materials, eco wool, sisal and even hemp in the development of the body panels and trim. The auto was also painted with the “hi-tech water-based paint”.
Seems, the Lotus designers really liked the idea of using hemp. It is known for centuries hemp can give you good ropes, but the manufacturers used it almost everywhere. Besides the body panels, the car spoiler and seats are made out of this material.
All the new technologies used in the creation of Eco Elise helped it to weight 70.5 pounds less than the standard Elise S, which makes it even more fuel efficient.
Lotus Engineering decided to make London cars greener and make them take care of the environment.
Lotus finally revealed the name of its project Eagle at 2008 London Auto Show. The coupe received the name of a Portugal city, Evora.
