There is a tax credit which might not be familiar to many people. When a vehicle gets very popular and the manufacturer sells a definite amount of the pieces, both the company and the customer will receive some of the car price back.
The Energy Policy Act of 2005 states the new tax credit system, according to which the buyers of the hybrid cars receive a good tax credit when the auto manufacturer sells 60,000 hybrids.
The first hybrid manufacturer who hit this point was Toyota. They sold more than 60,000 hybrids by June, 2006 and since October, 2007 even such luxury hybrid as Lexus, which is produced by Toyota too, brings back the tax credits to the their owners and the carmaker.
January 1, 2008 was the significant date for Honda, because by this time the company sold enough of the fuel-efficient vehicles to receive a 50% discount on taxes for six months. Later on there will be another 25% discount and very soon, the Honda lovers can forget about paying sales tax on the hybrids when they purchase them.
If you are a hybrid shopper, find out from your dealer if there is any tax credit on the model you are planning to purchase.
