Indonesia Goes Green

2010 Toyota Prius

Indonesian government has held the 2009 Indonesian Auto Show from July 24 to August 2 and following the world fashion on fuel-efficient vehicles the officials announced there that they were going "green". The Finance Minister Sri Mulyani says it is very important to invest in the development of eco-friendly technologies and design of small cars.

According to government plans the production of fuel-efficient vehicles will start in the country in 2012. There will be some incentives offered to the automakers to stimulate the production and sales of the "green" autos in Indonesia. Along with other popular fuel technologies the government is interested in the development of biodiesel and diesel blends.

Currently Indonesia is the majoir market in south-east Asia for small and medium MPVs. It has become an attractive market for different manufacturers, especially those with alternative-fuel models. Toyota has presented Prius at the show and is ready to bring the car to the dealerships soon. The only problem is that hybrid technologies are very expensive in Indonesia and the customers will have to pay $59,000 for a Prius there.
