Racing cars have their specific requirements and manufacturers have to follow them if they want to build an auto that qualifies for the competition. Indy Racing League has announced the formula for the next-generation racing cars on February 4.
Safety, competitiveness and cost-effectiveness are the standard requirements for vehicle like these. In addition they have to have modern look, be built in America and “to emphasize technology that is relevant to the consumer auto industry”. The specifications on “modern look” are not clear except for the call to have more space for the sponsor logos and to set better identifications which distinguish one vehicle from the other.
At this moment the League is receiving various concepts and trying to make a decision which vehicle could represent the third generation of IRL machine. Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, the College for Creative Studies in Detroit and four chassis makers have already presented their works to the judgement of the League officials.
