For 82 year Pontiac has been an American brand that became a legend and symbol of American auto industry. However, in the last several years it has been losing its popularity and GM did not see much profit from the brand.
About a year ago the manufacturer has announced that it would cut the number of brands in half and attempt to sell some of them. We have been tracing the sales of Saturn/Opel, Hummer and Saab, but the destiny of Pontiac was not clear. It seemed that at some points GM was eager to keep it and restore, but at the others it would give the brand up.
Finally, the board of administration has made up its mind to stop the production. The last car which appeared to be white Pontiac G6 sedan, has rolled off the assembly line on Wednesday. There has been no celebration or special event about this.
After everything will be done, GM is planning to rearrange the Pontiac lines for the production of new 2011 vehicles.
