It is interesting that Cars Allowance Rebate System or CARS more known as Cash for Clunkers has not included motorcycles although they are really fuel efficient on the roads. Many people wonder why American government wants to move people to new gas sipping vehicles, but does not consider bikes which can easily get 40 mpg.
When Motorcycle Industry Council based in Irvine, California, went to the government with the claim about motorcycles, the lawmakers explained that it was hard to get financing for cars and trucks only, so other types of vehicles had to be excluded.
However, there might be hope for bikes too. Earlier when there were some thoughts that the program would extend beyond $3 billion, some politicians voted for motorcycles in the CARS. In particular, Senator Robert P. Casey, D-Pa. was offering to include the ones in $7,000 to $20,000 price category. Maybe later there will be another program which concerns only motorcycles...
After the government program is over many intelligent people start asking questions and try to figure out if the CARS was worth all that money. Here are some interesting thoughts.
Today is the last day for the government program Cash for Clunkers. Although they expected it to last till November, it took only one month to use $3 billion in funding. The U.S. Department of Transportation is going to end the program at 7 p.m. Central time today, August 24.
Cash for Clunkers is up and running, but many believe that it will not last as long as it was supposed to. The arrangers of the program had two limits: either run it till November 1, or till the time the Department of Transportation will run out of money set apart for CARS: $1 billion.
Chrysler decided to join other automakers in good offers and developed its plan to attract customers. The manufacturer has launched the program which gives customers up to $4,500 to trade in their old car on a new Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge vehicle even if they do not qualify for the government program cash-for-clunkers.
