This year the New-York Auto Show will take place in Jacob Javits Convention Center on the 21st-30th of March. There are four categories in which the best cars will be announced.
The day before the show starts and people can see the best of the 2008-2009 models, the winners of the World Car awards will be announced.
The Top 10 World Car of the Year finalists have already been approved. They are Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Volvo C30, Audi R8, Audi S5 coupe, Mazda2 / Mazda Demio, Ford Mondeo, Ford S-Max, Nissan Qashqai/Dualis, Skyline/Infiniti G37 and Cadillac CTS.
Based on the facts that for a winner of the award a car has to be in production and sold on two continents during 2008 international accounting firm KPMG has announced 3 finalists of World Car of the Year Award on Febuary 21. They are Ford Mondeo, Mazda2 / Mazda Demio and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
The other award on the show is World Performance Car Award. For this prize the cars have to have the same criteria as for the World Car of the Year and be able to show specific sport/performance orientation. The list of the 3 finalists is: Audi R8, Audi S5 coupe and BMW M3.
World Green Car Award will be given to the car that “cares” about environment protection the most by the best intake of its fuel and use of the latest most advanced technologies. The best three in this category are BMW 118d, SmartForTwo cdi and Volkswagen Passat 1.9 TDI.
And the last fourth category in this show is World Car Design of the Year Award. The world famous designers were invited to analyze each candidate. Finally the jury voted for Audi R8, Mazda2 / Mazda Demio and Volvo C30.
Now the car fans should wait a little more to see who is going to be the winner.

Daimler AG has announced that is sold 5.34% of the stake in Tata Motors. The German company has raised more than $400 million for the shares it did not want to hold any more.
BYD is the Chinese battery and EV specialist which has recently decided to form a joint venture with the German Daimler AG. Although the companies are going to work together on many projects, Chinese media has announced that BYD is not planning to share its core technology on lithium-ion batteries and EV systems with the partner.
