It is interesting to watch the car market flipping upside down since the time of the raise of the gas prices. Several years ago a Hummer was beyond dreams for an average customer, right now the prices fell down and there is a real possibility of choice between a big vehicle like this or a small car.
At the same time the sedans which have good fuel efficiency and hybrids are getting really popular, because the people think they can save a lot on gas. This is why a little used Ford Escort, which you could buy for $2,000-3,000 a couple years ago, costs now $6,000-7,000.
Before you run to a dealership to trade your SUV to a sedan, count all the cost of the auto (not only its price in the dealership, but the maintenance and fuel usage). Just because your vehicle now eats 20 miles per gallon and you plan to purchase the one with 30mpg, does not mean you’ll save a lot. You might sell a used truck for $5,000 and buy a little car for $7,000, but remember, your savings on gas will be about $1,300 a year. It’s not worth it!
The shockingly high prices on fuel seem to go down and almost every day we can see the gas is getting more affordable again.
Many car manufacturers are claiming now, they are selling vehicles, which get more than 30 mpg, but don’t let them trick you.
