Toyota is world's number one vehicle seller for the last few years, so if it announces a recall, hundreds of thousands of vehicles are usually involved in it. A few months ago there was a great Toyota recall in the U.S. which affected over 4 million cars, and in the end of January National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has requested a new recall which concerns 2.3 million Toyota autos.
The manufacturer has to work on accelerator pedals which can wear out and become “sticky over time”. The recall does not include Lexus or Scion brands, but a lot of Toyota vehicles: 2009-2012 R4V4, 2009-2010 Corolla, 2009-2010 Matrix, 2005-2010 Avalon, 2007-2010 Camry, 201 Highlander, 2007-2010 Tundra, and 2008-2010 Sequoia.
Toyota says that the so called “dangerous acceleration” is a rare issue and as a rule, occurs after wear or tear on the gas pedal. Before the owners of the abovementioned models can bring them to dealerships for fixing, the manufacturer recommends using floor mats which prevent the pedal sticking.
In order to avoid the reputation damage, Toyota is expanding the recall to the vehicles sold in Mexico too.
Since there have been a lot of talks and unpleasant issues after the major Toyota recall, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has decided to set new auto safety rules which would not allow the same problem to happen again. At the congressional hearing two days ago, the new administrator, David Strickland, has announced them.
In the last weeks almost every American has heard and discussed the problem of Toyota vehicles that have to be recalled because of “unintended acceleration”. The Japanese manufacturer is suffering losses in sales and reputation of a company that builds safest cars, but there are many questions to be answered about this whole deal.
In the light of the recent mega-recalls Toyota started losing sales. In order to slow down the production, the manufacturer has decided to close two U.S. plants for an indefinite time till things clear up for the company.
Sometimes having great sales and producing autos too quickly might turn against the car manufacturer. This is what happened to Toyota which has to recall nearly 700,000 cars in China because of such minor problem as a faulty window switch.
BMW has officially announced that it is going to make new series of small, front and four-wheel drive vehicles on a new platform. These autos are going to share it with the next generation of Mini models. At this time the company is “exploring the possibility of developing a joint venture for the front- and four-wheel-drive systems of these cars”.
