The upcoming 2009 Dakar Rally, which will take place in South America this year, will become a place of presentation of some interesting designs. Volkswagen is preparing four Race Touareg 2 models for this event which are going to be prompt in the best way for the chosen territory of the rally.
The engines have been brought to South America for the best tests and some checking was done in a special environment chamber. All the models have 2.5-liter diesel engines with 280 horsepower.
Touaregs are going to be piloted by Carlos Sainz, Mark Miller, Giniel de Viliers and Dieter Depping. All of them went through special training in the Alps and keep preparing to the race.
The 2009 Rally was moved to South America after terrorist threads which caused the cancellation of the event last year. This time it starts on January 3 in Buenos Aires. The route will go from Atlantic to the Pacific coast and back. It will run through Argentina and Chile, Atacam Desert and Andes. The total length of the rout is 5,625 miles.
