Volvo Is Planning to Build Diesel Hybrids

Volvo Diesel Hybrid

Without puzzling itself who is going to be the future owner Volvo already makes plans for the new models. The manufacturer wants to start building plug-in diesel-hybrid electric vehicles in its native Sweden by 2012.

In order to accomplish the plans Volvo is going to team up with Swedish energy company, Vattenfall, with which it has already worked on plug-in hybrid electric vehicles two years ago. The partnership is necessary to provide charging systems for the autos built by Volvo and to supply the customers with cheaper electricity that comes from such sources as wind and water.

The new hybrids are going to have lithium-ion batteries which take 5 hours to charge from standard European wall socket. When the charging stations will be built, the energy in the batteries will be restored much quicker.

This summer Volvo will be testing the performance and quick charges of the new three V70 PHEVs. Vattenfall has already created home and public quick charging stations for them.
